I’m a yoga teacher. When I tell people that, I can almost see the pictures they form in their heads of me doing impossibly bendy, twisty and stretchy things. And it makes me feel like a little bit of a fraud.
I wasn’t blessed with a naturally flexible body. I have a disobedient back, traitorous hips and epic flat footedness, and like me, my muscles are short.
Every bend and twist that I can do, has been achieved with persistence and hard work. While I can now ease into many asanas, there are a lot that I just can’t do. My aim this year is to, slowly and steadily, but surely, conquer some of these poses.
My goal isn’t perfection, just progress. To know I am moving forward, and deeper into my yoga.
I don’t know what it is about birthdays that make us reflective, introspective. I’m a year older, and I’m very lucky to be able to say that I just don’t feel my age. Fitness (yoga, mostly), happiness and being surrounded by wonderful people is what does it for me.
And while I don’t think I’ll ever be a perfect yogi (I doubt one exists), I’m happy that the journey is so rewarding.
Stay tuned for my updates on challenging yoga poses and my (occasionally hilarious) attempts to get into them 🙂
